FinkedIn Introduces “Collaborative Articles” With AI-Powered Dad Jokes
FinkedIn, the social network for professionals with too much free time, has rolled out a new feature aimed at increasing user engagement: collaborative articles! The feature uses state-of-the-art artificial intelligence to generate conversation starters that prompt users to share their opinions on various topics.
However, what the FinkedIn team failed to mention is that the AI conversation starters are actually just a bunch of terrible dad jokes. For example, one starter asks “Why did the tomato turn red? Because it saw the salad dressing!” Another asks “Why don’t scientists trust atoms? Because they make up everything!”
Insiders at FinkedIn say the decision to use dad jokes as conversation starters was made after an executive’s son kept telling them at family dinners. “He would always trot out these really bad puns and laugh hysterically, and everyone else would just groan,” said the executive. “But then we started noticing how effective he was at getting conversations going. So we thought, why not try it out on FinkedIn?”
So far, the move seems to be working. Users are flocking to the site to leave their own terrible puns and jokes in the comments, leading to more engagement and even a few job offers. “I never thought my love of cheesy jokes would get me recognized by recruiters,” said one user who goes by the name of Bob Loblaw. “But hey, I’m not complaining!”
As for FinkedIn’s competitors, they’re not too worried about the dad joke invasion just yet. “We’ll stick with good old-fashioned thought-provoking content, thank you very much,” snarked one executive at Blueligion. “But hey, if FinkedIn wants to be known as the go-to site for people looking for a quick laugh, that’s their choice.”
