BREAKING NEWS: Lawyers refuse to help fossil fuel industry!
In a shocking twist, six KCs and over 120 mostly English lawyers have signed a pledge to not act for fossil fuel interests. They’ve reportedly vowed to “withhold their services” when it comes to supporting new fossil fuel projects and prosecuting peaceful climate protesters exercising their constitutional rights.
The hilarious irony here is that they’re called barristers, but now they’ve gone and barred themselves from serving the very companies that may have once paid their bills. (Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!)
However, some skeptics are questioning whether these lawyers are just looking for an excuse to take a break from work. After all, avoiding fossil fuel cases definitely makes life easier when you’re trying to save the planet, right?
We reached out to some of the signatories for comment, but they all declined, instead offering some shady glances and chuckles over their tea.
The fossil fuel industry may be shaking their heads right now, but we think these lawyers are doing what’s right. Cheers to them for choosing a more righteous path!
