Discovery of Endangered Newt in Carrara Marble Quarries Leads to Hilarious Mix-Up
In a startling discovery, the endangered Italian alpine newt has been found in a deserted mine in the Carrara marble quarries of Tuscany. While this might seem like a serious ecological event, what happened next was nothing short of hilarious.
Apparently, the discovery led to a mix-up when a group of tourists mistook the newt for a marble sculpture and tried to purchase it from the quarry workers. This led to some awkward conversations, as the workers tried to explain that the newt was, in fact, a living creature and not for sale.
To make matters worse, a group of pranksters decided to take advantage of the situation and began selling fake newt sculptures to unsuspecting tourists. One unlucky couple ended up purchasing a fake newt for a whopping €500, thinking it was a rare piece of Italian marble art.
Thankfully, the situation was resolved when Manuel Micheli, a photographer working with the Apuane Libere organization, stepped in and explained the true value of the Italian alpine newt. Micheli’s stunning photographs of the newt have since gone viral, drawing attention to the biodiversity of the Carrara marble quarries.
In light of the mix-up, the quarry workers have decided to take extra precautions to ensure that any future discoveries of rare creatures are clearly marked and protected. And as for the pranksters, let’s just say they won’t be causing any more trouble in the Apuan Alps anytime soon.
