In a recent press conference, representatives from the banking industry gathered to calm the nerves of their customers after news broke that nearly $100 billion in deposits had been pulled from their institutions. Despite the alarming numbers, spokespeople from the banks were quick to assure the public that the system was safe.
“We want to assure our customers that there is no need to panic,” said John Moneybags, CEO of Big Bank Inc. “We have everything under control and their deposits are secure.”
However, skeptics are not convinced. One customer, Jane Dough, expressed her concerns about the safety of her money.
“I don’t know if I trust them,” she said. “If they can’t even keep track of $100 billion, how can I trust them with my hard-earned cash?”
In response, the banks have unveiled a new security measure to put their customers’ minds at ease – a moat filled with alligators around every branch.
“We understand that people are worried about the safety of their deposits, so we’ve taken extreme measures to protect their money,” said Roger Richman, COO of Bank of the Universe.
While some customers are pleased with the new security measures, others are taking their deposits elsewhere. In fact, local credit unions have reported a spike in new members as people look for safer options.
“It’s just common sense,” said Sally Saver of Thrifty Credit Union. “Why risk losing your money when you can have it insured by the government and avoid the hassle of navigating a moat filled with man-eating reptiles?”
Only time will tell if the banks’ new measures will be enough to win back their customers’ trust, but in the meantime, people are advised to keep a safe distance from any body of water near a financial institution.
