In a shocking turn of events, the head of Palm Beach Central High School in Florida has been forced to resign after a controversial art lesson involving a certain Italian artist’s sculpture.
Sources say that art students were shown the infamous statue known as “David” by a teacher named Ms. Johnson. Apparently, the school head, Mr. Smith, was not amused when he found out and promptly demanded that Ms. Johnson be fired.
“It’s just ridiculous,” said one student who wishes to remain anonymous. “We were just learning about art history, and Mr. Smith freaked out like we were looking at some kind of pornographic material.”
Speculation arose that Mr. Smith’s reaction may have been due to the fact that he himself had never seen a naked statue before. Others suggested that he simply didn’t want to risk offending any of the school’s more conservative parents.
In any case, the situation became even more absurd when it was revealed that Mr. Smith had mistakenly thought the statue in question was actually created by Michaelangelo, rather than the real artist, Donatello.
“This is just embarrassing now,” quipped another student. “First he gets mad about David, and now he can’t even tell the difference between Michaelangelo and Donatello. I mean, come on.”
Despite the ordeal, students say that they are enjoying the newfound attention from the media, and even joked about petitioning to have a replica of David placed in the school’s lobby as a form of protest.
As for Mr. Smith, he was last seen desperately trying to memorize the names of renaissance artists, in case any more “objectionable” art makes its way into his school.
