Aurora-chasing photographers say they are seeing more brilliant, intense displays this season. Today, we’ve got exclusive interviews with some of these passionate photographers who are determined to capture the elusive green and purple lights in all their glory. Meet our three subjects: Betsy, Ted, and Harold.
Betsy is a self-proclaimed aurora addict. She spends most of her time chasing after the northern lights, to the point where her friends and family are starting to think she’s lost her marbles. According to Betsy, this season has been especially vibrant: “I’ve seen colors I’ve never seen before! Neon pink, electric blue, even glittery gold! It’s like the aurora is on steroids or something!”
Ted is a newbie to the aurora-chasing scene, but he’s already hooked. He describes his first sighting as a life-changing experience: “I felt like I was on a psychedelic trip, man. The lights were so bright and wild, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I’ve been chasing that high ever since.” Ted believes that the intensity of this season’s aurora is due to solar flares: “It’s like the sun is having a tantrum, and the aurora is just its crazy, beautiful offspring.”
Harold is a self-taught photographer who has been chasing the aurora for years. He’s seen it all – from faint wisps of light to jaw-dropping explosions of color. According to Harold, this season is the best one yet: “I’ve been able to capture some truly epic shots. I even got a picture of the aurora smiling! It looked like it had a big gap-toothed grin, like it was laughing at our silly human antics.” When asked about the cause of this season’s brilliance, Harold simply shrugs: “Who knows? Maybe the aurora got a new highlighter pen or something.”
So there you have it, folks – the aurora is putting on a dazzling show this season, and these three photographers are loving every minute of it.
