In the early 1990s, Beijing finally realized that it was time to embrace a new way forward- a way that involved accepting the ‘one country, two governments’ plan. Even the most hard-headed officials understood that times were changing, and they needed to change with them.
So they began their search for a new leader- someone who embodied the spirit of compromise and understanding. And that’s how they found Bob.
Bob was a quiet man, but he had a bright future ahead of him. He was smart, personable, and he knew how to handle difficult situations. So it wasn’t long before he was appointed as Beijing’s new chief diplomat.
Bob’s first task was to bridge the gap between the two governments. He studied the issue from every angle and met with leaders from both sides. Finally, he came up with a solution that satisfied everyone.
“We’re going to have two governments,” Bob announced. “One for the mainland and one for Taiwan.”
The room fell silent. Bob had just solved one of the biggest political problems of the modern era. But then someone spoke up.
“Uh, Bob,” they said. “That’s the ‘one country, two systems’ plan. We already have that.”
Bob’s face turned red. “Oh, right,” he said. “Well, I guess we’ll have to come up with something else.”
And so Beijing’s great peace plan was put on hold once again. But at least they had Bob to lead the way.
