In a shocking revelation, renters in the UK have come forward with their tales of woe, claiming they have been unceremoniously evicted from their homes for complaining about the sorry state of their living spaces. The BBC has uncovered a series of horror stories that really put the “land” in landlord.
Take poor old Fred, for example. He noticed a leak in his kitchen ceiling and, being a responsible tenant, reported it to his landlord. The next day, he was handed an eviction notice. Turns out, the landlord didn’t appreciate his handyman skills and was worried Fred might actually fix things himself.
Then there’s Sheila, who received the boot for daring to suggest her rental property could benefit from a lick of paint. Her landlord – who clearly took inspiration from Marie Kondo – decided Sheila and her clutter did not “spark joy” and promptly evicted her.
Jimmy, meanwhile, was turfed out for the heinous crime of complaining about the rats in his attic. Apparently, his landlord didn’t like being reminded of his previous careers as a sewer-dwelling rodent.
Finally, poor old Dave was made homeless for daring to request that his broken, submerged car be removed from his front lawn. The landlord thought it added a ‘je ne sais quoi’ to the area and was convinced the rust bucket was actually a vintage relic.
It’s clear that tenants have to tread carefully when it comes to voicing their concerns about the state of their homes. In fact, it might be wise to suggest some improvements via carrier pigeon or smoke signal. Who knows what might happen if you dare to use the phone or email?
