Budapest, Hungary- It’s been said that there’s nothing more exciting than watching paint dry, but we beg to differ. Watching engineers lay 65,000 tonnes of asphalt over a five-month span is like watching a slow-motion race between snails.
According to project manager Bob Johnson, the team is “right on schedule” despite “a few hiccups along the way.” He didn’t elaborate on what those hiccups were but we can imagine it involved a misplaced wheelbarrow or a case of mistaken identity with a hot dog cart.
The team of engineers, who we’ll call “The Asphalt Avengers,” have become celebrities in their own right. Fans flock to the construction site to catch a glimpse of the action, only to leave disappointed by the snail’s pace.
The Asphalt Avengers themselves seem to be enjoying the attention. “We’re basically rockstars at this point,” says lead engineer Tony Stark. “We’ve got groupies and everything.”
When asked what he thinks of the project’s progress so far, Tony says, “We’re laying a crap-ton of asphalt, man. It’s like watching grass grow, but more productive.”
It’s not all fun and games, though. The team has faced some challenges, such as extreme weather conditions and the occasional sighting of a rampaging elephant that broke loose from the circus next door.
Despite all this, the project is on track for completion in just a few short months. When asked what’s next for The Asphalt Avengers, Tony says, “Who knows? Maybe we’ll take on a project to paint the town red next. Literally.”
