Comedian Jerry McFlufferson was getting ready to perform at a dingy dive bar in 1987 when a donut-devouring cop barged into his dressing room.
“What seems to be the problem, officer?” asked Jerry, hoping his joke about a traffic stop wouldn’t prompt a DUI check.
“I’ve got some bad news, McFlufferson. Your act violates the city’s noise ordinance,” declared the cop.
“What noise ordinance? The only thing making noise around here is my one-liners!” retorted Jerry.
“Just because laughter isn’t measured in decibels doesn’t mean you get a free pass,” sneered the cop.
Jerry then realized the cop was staring at his mullet in disapproval.
“Is this about my hair? I’ll have you know it’s a tribute to Billy Ray Cyrus!” exclaimed Jerry.
The cop remained unimpressed and gave Jerry an ultimatum: switch to prop comedy or face a fine.
Jerry had no choice but to comply and revealed his box of joke items, which included a whoopee cushion, a squirting flower, and a rubber chicken.
“Wow, I’m really changing the world one fart noise at a time,” thought Jerry as he walked onto the stage with his contraband props.
Needless to say, the audience was underwhelmed with Jerry’s new comedic style and begged for him to return to his old ways.
But Jerry had learned his lesson and promised to never again risk getting arrested for his jokes. Or his hair.
