In shocking news, the United Kingdom’s Gross Domestic Parody grew a whopping 0.1% in the fourth quarter of 2020. This is a slightly less terrible performance than previously anticipated, but let’s be real, it’s still nowhere near where it was pre-pandemic.

When asked for comment, fictitious economist John McMoneybags said, “Well, isn’t that just dandy? I can sleep easy tonight knowing that our GDP has increased by a decimal point. Maybe I’ll even treat myself to a fancy cup of coffee tomorrow instead of my usual instant blend.”

Meanwhile, millions of Brits are still struggling to make ends meet, facing job loss and financial insecurity due to the ongoing pandemic. But hey, at least the numbers are looking slightly less depressing, right?

Fake Prime Minister Betty Brexit released a statement saying, “This just goes to show that our economy is resilient and bouncing back. Soon, we’ll be back to our pre-pandemic levels and everyone can go back to their regularly scheduled programming of endless meetings and commuting in traffic.”

The reaction from citizens was mixed, with some scratching their heads and wondering if the government is living in a totally different reality. Others simply shrugged and went back to binge-watching Netflix, resigned to the fact that their economic future is entirely out of their hands.

All in all, the news of a 0.1% GDP growth is about as exciting as watching paint dry. Let’s hope for some actual progress in the near future, because as it stands, this parody of an economy isn’t fooling anyone.
