In a surprising move, Brazilian meat magnate Juan B. S. has been awarded an A-minus grade for sustainability, much to the chagrin of environmentalists.
Rumors have been circulating for years that JBS may have had a hand in deforestation in the Amazon, and some activists are calling foul on this high rating. They accuse JBS of under-reporting emissions and taking part in shady activity.
Despite these accusations, JBS has been given an “A-OK” from the highly-respected rating organization, CDP. The company’s efforts to tackle climate change have apparently landed them in hot water, and they have been given a “leadership” status.
This has caused concern among some in the sustainability community, who are worried that the ratings system may be skewed in favor of big corporations.
