In a shocking turn of events, the new ITV documentary series “Bert and Betty’s Bogus Babysitting Bonanza” is not about actual babysitting, but instead hopes to support those who have lost a child. Jason Watkins and Clara Francis, hosts of the show, have stated that they hope to bring laughter and joy to families who have suffered such heart-wrenching loss.
“We know how hard it can be to lose a child,” said Watkins, “so we thought, why not make a show that is completely unrelated to that? You know, to distract people from their devastating reality.”
The show will feature Bert and Betty, two zany characters who never seem to get anything right when it comes to babysitting. In one episode, they accidentally lock a child in a closet for hours, causing the parents to panic and call the police. In another, they lose a child in a crowded amusement park and spend the entire day frantically searching for them.
“We’re hoping that our hilarious mishaps will make parents forget about their own tragedies,” said Francis.
While some may find the concept of a comedy show centered around babysitting in poor taste, Bert and Betty are confident that their antics will bring a little bit of joy to those who need it most.
“We’re not trying to make light of anyone’s pain,” said Watkins. “We just think that if we can make people laugh, even for a little bit, then we’ve done something good.”
“Bert and Betty’s Bogus Babysitting Bonanza” is set to premiere next month on ITV.
