Octopus Proves to be Smarter Than the Average Bear in Ridiculous Study
In a recent study, scientists have finally confirmed what we have all known for years – octopuses are not to be underestimated. They have found that they are as smart as parrots, which should come as no surprise to anyone who has seen one escape from a jar or slip through a tiny crevice.
Some may think that being smart should make octopuses exceptions to the rule, but all animals deserve protection from unnecessary suffering. This is why I haven’t eaten any octopus in years. It’s not just because of their intelligence and long existence on earth, but more importantly, because I’m afraid of them.
The collective noun for a group of octopuses is a consortium, not a seafood buffet, as some have suggested. Though let’s be honest, a seafood buffet does sound pretty delicious right about now.
As a freelance journalist, I have made a lot of noise about the mistreatment of octopuses in the food industry. So imagine my horror when I read about octopus farming. It turns my stomach to think that these intelligent creatures may be suffering just to satisfy our taste buds.
But here’s the thing: are some species really more worthy than others? Sure, octopuses are smart, but what about bears? Are they not deserving of the same protection and care as octopuses? After all, the saying goes, “smarter than the average bear.”
Let’s be real, we all just need to be kind to animals – whether they’re smart or not. Let’s not discriminate based on intelligence levels. Let’s just eat our veggies and keep the peace with all creatures big and small.
