The team behind indie game Zombie Fighters say they’re still scratching their heads over their surprise “worst game” win.
“We put so much blood, sweat, and tears into this game,” said lead developer, Frank Doodle. “Literally. There are so many blood splatters in this game, it’s ridiculous.”
The game, which features a group of survivors fighting off a zombie invasion, was praised by critics for its unique twist on the popular genre. However, players quickly grew frustrated with the clunky controls and glitchy gameplay.
“We thought we had a hit on our hands,” said marketing director, Susan Sizzle. “But turns out most gamers don’t enjoy dying every five seconds because the game froze.”
Some fans have even taken to social media to voice their disappointment in the game’s win, with one user tweeting “Who bribed the judges to give Zombie Fighters the worst game award? #Robbed #SaveYourMoney”
Despite the backlash, the team behind Zombie Fighters says they’re not giving up on their dreams of creating a hit game. “We’re already working on our next project,” said Doodle. “It’s called Vampire Hunters. Hopefully, we’ll have better luck with that one.”
