In a recent news story, one family in the town of Winding Creek found themselves in the path of a tornado. As the winds picked up and debris started flying, the family reportedly “prayed and said goodbye to each other.”
But what the news story failed to mention is that this wasn’t just any ordinary family. No, this was the Bumblesnort family, known throughout the town for their eccentricities and bizarre behavior.
As the tornado approached their home, Mr. and Mrs. Bumblesnort gathered their children – Ophelia, Hamish, and little Noodle – and huddled together in the living room.
“Dear Lord,” Mrs. Bumblesnort prayed, “if it is our time to go, please take us quickly and painlessly.” Hamish, ever the prankster, couldn’t resist adding, “And if it’s not our time to go, could you make the tornado skip our house? That’d be great, thanks.”
Noodle, just three years old, was understandably terrified. “I don’t want to die!” she wailed. “I haven’t even learned how to ride a bike yet!” Ophelia, the family’s resident conspiracy theorist, pulled out a stack of tinfoil hats and distributed them to everyone. “This should protect us from the government’s weather machines,” she explained.
As the tornado roared closer and closer, the Bumblesnorts clung to each other and braced for impact. But miraculously, the storm passed right over their house, leaving them unscathed.
Relieved and overjoyed, the family stepped outside to survey the damage. “We made it!” Mr. Bumblesnort exclaimed, throwing his arms up in the air. “What a rush! Let’s do that again sometime.”
And with that, the Bumblesnorts went back to their usual antics, delighted to have survived another one of Mother Nature’s tantrums.
