LONDON – In a shocking turn of events, base metals and gold were reportedly caught sleeping on the job in London trading today. According to market experts, the metals were too busy dreaming of vacation days to pay attention to the Fed rate hike rumors that were floating around the office.
Sources close to the situation claim that even the most valiant attempts to wake up gold and the base metals proved unsuccessful, as they were determined to catch up on some much-needed rest.
The dollar, on the other hand, seemed to be wide awake and alert, with expectations of a May rate hike giving it an extra boost of energy. Rumor has it that the dollar was even seen doing calisthenics in the break room before the day’s trading began.
But despite the dollar’s impressive show of enthusiasm, gold and the base metals remained snoozing throughout the trading day. Some investors even reported that they heard the metals snoring through their computer screens.
As one trader quipped, “I guess when you’re made of precious metals, you can afford to take a midday nap. The rest of us poor suckers have to keep working for a living!”
It remains to be seen whether gold and the base metals will wake up in time for tomorrow’s trading, or whether they’ll be too busy dreaming about their next vacation to care. Meanwhile, the dollar seems to be gearing up for another day of lively trading – maybe they could share some of their energy with their sleepy metal counterparts!
