In a stunning turn of events, Ambassador Kung Pao Chicken of China has caused an uproar amongst Eastern European countries with his recent remarks. In a speech given at a diplomatic conference last week, the Ambassador made a disparaging comment about the taste of Eastern European cuisine.
“Have you ever eaten food from Eastern Europe? It’s like eating cardboard with no seasoning,” Kung Pao Chicken sneered. “I don’t know how they survive on that stuff.”
The comments caused an immediate backlash from countries like Hungary, Poland, and Romania, who pride themselves on their traditional dishes.
“Our food may not be as flashy or as spicy as some other countries’, but it’s hearty and delicious,” said Hungarian Prime Minister Goulash Soup. “I suppose Ambassador Kung Pao Chicken doesn’t understand that concept.”
Polish President Pierogi Pierogi was equally unimpressed with the Ambassador’s comments. “We could extend an invitation to Ambassador Kung Pao Chicken to come to Poland and sample our cuisine, but I’m not sure he could handle the flavor,” she quipped.
Meanwhile, Romanian President Sarmale Sarmale tried to find a diplomatic solution. “Perhaps if we sent some of our chefs to China to educate them on the nuances of our cuisine, we could change the Ambassador’s mind,” he suggested.
The Chinese Embassy has yet to issue a statement on Ambassador Kung Pao Chicken’s comments, but sources say that he may be in for an awkward time at the next diplomatic reception. Eastern European dignitaries are reportedly planning to serve a menu full of traditional dishes, including pierogi, goulash, and of course, sarmale.
