In a recent press release, the International Energy Agency (IEA) announced that we can all rest easy knowing that there’s plenty of gas to go around. “Thanks to our well-stocked inventories and some good old-fashioned demand reductions, we can all breathe a sigh of relief,” said IEA representative, John. Well, John, we hate to burst your bubble, but we think you might be a little too optimistic.
First of all, we’re not sure what kind of demand reductions you’re talking about, but we’re pretty sure it’s not the type that involves people using less gas. More likely, it’s the kind where people simply can’t afford to pay for it anymore. We know times are tough, John, but we’re not sure that’s a reason to celebrate.
Secondly, let’s talk about these well-stocked inventories you keep mentioning. We have a few questions. Who exactly is stockpiling all this gas? Is there some secret underground bunker we don’t know about? And why are they hoarding it all instead of sharing it with the rest of us? We’re starting to feel a little left out.
All jokes aside, we appreciate the IEA’s attempts to keep us informed about the state of our energy supplies. But we think it’s important to remember that just because we have a lot of something stored up, it doesn’t mean we can afford to waste it.
