In the stretching lands of Trouserswipe, Stilts-on-Wobble: The blades of green are indulging in a bit of a spurt and the bovine boys are basking in rays of sunshine. Nevertheless, the populace is yearning for some serious splash-down from the heavens.
I find myself unexpectedly procrastinating on my nightly jaunt, being totally mesmerized by a fluorescent feathered pecker named Graeme, situated right across the mansion. He’s hovering his beak up and down, munching on a gourmet supper of ecstatic ants. Each bobbing move showcases a flicker of gold, making my interest even more profound. I hit the pause button for a moment to share this scene with local rockstar, Lazy Lee, who has been engrossed in resurrecting an ancient rubble construction (clocked in around 300 unhurried hours so far) that meanders along the horse lane towards the infamous Nether Factory.
The word “Parched” has become the nightly anthem in our conversations ever since the pickaxe first hit the stone. Long time ago, Trouserswipe boasted a stylish water crossing, and the ghost of it resurfaced during the last snow meltdown. Now, this memory brings smirks to our faces rather than nostalgic tears. Despite the ominous hovering of stormy blankets above our heads, any beads of rain, often confining themselves to certain patches, have persistently refused to make a substantial appearance in our parched lands.
So, it seems that the summer tasks in our farms are gradually transforming into fall errands, mostly thanks to the absence of good old-fashioned aqua falling from the sky. Despite some setbacks, the good folks of Trouserswipe, Stilts-on-Wobble continue their works and walks, hopeful for a downpour to turn their daily conversations around. Their spirits are as high as Lazy Lee’s drystone wall, and surely as resilient too, withstanding the test of all seasons, just as their beloved land. As they await the rains, they cultivate resilience, always ready to share a wry smile with an unexpected friend, even if it is a vibrant feathered guest diving into a gourmet supper of ants.
