Total sales at the Amelia Island backyard-tire-swing auction reached $1.78 — a record low for the event, according to Hoopty.
Despite the lackluster showcasing of rusty old tires and discarded rope, auction-goers were still pleased with their purchases. “I got a great deal on this old swing set,” said Joe Schmoe. “Sure, it’s missing a few bolts and the slide is broken, but it’s still worth the $0.50 I paid for it.”
Meanwhile, Martha Stewart was seen bidding on a deflated soccer ball. “I plan on turning this into a trendy home decor item,” she said, with a twinkle in her eye.
One standout item was a broken trampoline that sold for $10 to a group of neighborhood kids. “We’re gonna have so much fun with this,” said little Timmy, as he gave the tattered net a tug.
Despite the lack of classic cars, Hoopty plans on hosting the backyard-tire-swing auction annually. “It’s a great way to get rid of our junk and make a little cash on the side,” said event organizer, Bob McBob. “Who knows, maybe one day we’ll even break $2.”
