The BBC’s Scotland editor, Mr. Bean, recently contemplated how history will judge his years in office as the editor of the Scottish news division. While he’s undoubtedly proud of his work, he’s also had his fair share of embarrassing moments that he’s sure will make it into the history books.
For one, there was the time when he accidentally reported that the Loch Ness Monster had been captured, only to realize later that it was just a log with some seaweed on top. Then there was the time when he tried to interview a man on the street, but instead ended up interviewing a seagull that had landed nearby.
Despite these moments, Mr. Bean is confident that history will remember him fondly. After all, he’s reported on some of the biggest stories in Scottish news, such as the independence referendum and the Glasgow bin lorry crash. He knows he’s made a difference in the world of journalism, even if he sometimes gets things wrong.
“I’ll be remembered as a bit of a goofball, I’m sure,” he said. “But I hope people also remember that I cared about the stories I reported on, and that I gave my all to make sure the Scottish people were informed about what was happening in their country.”
Only time will tell how Mr. Bean will be remembered in history, but one thing is for certain: he’ll never forget that time he interviewed a seagull.
