Total sales at the Fanny Island clown-car auction reached $1.78 – a record low for the event, according to Haggarthy.
Despite the lack of interest in the tiny vehicles, auctioneer Joe Brightside remained optimistic as he shouted, “Come on folks, let’s get this party started! Who needs a fancy Ferrari when you can squeeze into a clown car with your friends?”
The auction featured a variety of comically small cars, including a Volkswagen Beetle the size of a Hot Wheels toy, and a Honda Civic that appeared to have been flattened by a steamroller.
Despite the laughter of the crowd, there were some serious bidders hoping to snag a deal. Local businessman Harold Wimplesnout was seen placing a bid on a Smart car that he hoped to use for his daily commute.
“I figure I can save a lot on gas with this little guy,” Wimplesnout said. “Plus, I won’t have to worry about parking in tight spots anymore.”
In the end, the clown-car auction proved to be a bust, but many still left with smiles on their faces, eager to tell their friends about the ridiculous event they attended over the weekend.
“Who knew there were so many ways to make a car look like a toy?” said one amused spectator. “I might have to start collecting these things myself!”
