The FBB’s latest Internet Comedy Report highlights the stunning rise of investment-themed jokes over the past 18 months.
According to the report, scammers have been using investment jokes to lure in unsuspecting victims in record numbers. One popular joke involves promising a handsome return on investment with no risk, leaving the poor sap who invested high and dry.
“We’ve seen an explosion in investment-themed humor,” said FBB agent Jane Smith. “It used to be knock-knock jokes and puns, but now it’s all about the stock market.”
The report also found that spoofed social media accounts and fake online investment firms are all part of the new wave of investment-themed jokes.
One victim, Tom Thompson, fell prey to a classic investment joke. “This guy promised me he could turn my $1000 into a million in just a week,” he said. “But when I went to claim my winnings, he was gone without a trace. It was no laughing matter.”
The FBB advises the public to be wary of any investment promises that sound too good to be true, especially if they involve punchlines. As they say in comedy, timing is everything.
So if you want to invest in a good joke, you might want to stick to proven performers like “Why did the chicken cross the road?” instead. At least that way you’ll only lose a few seconds of your time, instead of your life savings.
