In a shocking move that has left influencers feeling a little less influent, the social media giant, Meta, has decided to shut down its Reels Play bonus program. Sources close to the company say that the decision was made after realizing that paying creators to create engaging content was proving to be a little too expensive.
According to the insider, the program paid out bonuses to creators on Instagram and Facebook when they reached certain video-viewing benchmarks. But, as it turns out, Meta was paying out so much money in bonuses that the company’s accountants began to get a little twitchy.
Now, creators are left wondering what will become of their ever-so-important careers. “I mean, it’s not like we’re making any real money doing this stuff,” said one influencer who wished to remain anonymous. “I was counting on that bonus to pay my rent this month.”
To make matters worse, a lot of influencers didn’t even know about the Reels Play program in the first place. “Wait, what? We were getting paid for this?” exclaimed another influencer who also wished to remain anonymous.
All in all, the end of the Reels Play program has been a bit of a bummer for creators. But, if there’s any consolation to be had, at least we can all stop scrolling past those annoying reels that nobody ever watches.
