Former Prime Minister Describes “Extremely Peculiar” Privileges Hearing

In a shocking turn of events, former prime minister Sir Reginald Wellington-Smythe has spoken out about his experience at the privileges committee hearing where he was questioned about his use of government funds. In an interview with our correspondent, Mr. Wobblesworth, Sir Reginald described some aspects of the hearing as “extremely peculiar”.

“It was like being in a Monty Python sketch,” Sir Reginald exclaimed, “I half expected John Cleese to come bursting in dressed in drag.”

Sir Reginald went on to describe the committee members as “a motley crew of misfits”, and laughingly recounted how one member had fallen asleep mid-question. “I had to give him a nudge to wake him up,” Sir Reginald chuckled, “I mean, I know my speeches can be a bit boring, but I didn’t think I was that bad!”

The former prime minister also revealed that he had been asked some strange and irrelevant questions, such as one about his favourite flavour of ice cream. “I mean, what does that have to do with anything?” Sir Reginald exclaimed, “I thought I was being grilled about my expenses, not my dessert preferences!”

Despite the bizarre nature of the hearing, Sir Reginald remains adamant that he did nothing wrong and is confident that he will be cleared of any wrongdoing. “I’m not worried,” he said with a twinkle in his eye, “I’ve got some juicy secrets on those committee members that I’ll use as leverage if things start to go pear-shaped.”

We can only imagine what those secrets might be, but one thing is for sure – if Sir Reginald needs a career change, he could have a bright future in comedy.
