In a surprising move, the world’s governments have announced that they will continue to expand their fossil fuel use, despite overwhelming evidence that this is a terrible idea. To make matters worse, they’ve even formed a new coalition to promote the expansion of fossil fuels!
“We just can’t ignore the economic benefits of burning all these fossil fuels,” said Bob, representing the coalition at a recent press conference. “Sure, we might be destroying the planet and condemning future generations to a hellish existence, but at least we’ll be making a lot of money in the process!”
Environmentalists were quick to respond to this news, with many taking to social media to voice their outrage. “It’s like they’re trying to kill us all!” tweeted climate activist Jane. “How can they keep ignoring the science?”
Despite the outcry, it seems that the governments of the world are determined to continue down this dangerous path. “We’ve got to be realistic,” said Tom, another member of the coalition. “There’s just too much money to be made. Besides, we’ll all be dead before the worst effects of global warming really take hold. So why not enjoy ourselves while we can?”
As the world hurtles towards environmental catastrophe, it seems that there’s nothing we can do to stop our leaders from making a terrible mistake. But at least we can take solace in the fact that they’re all going to suffer right alongside us. After all, money can’t protect you from the heat, the droughts, and the floods. Perhaps one day our leaders will realize that it’s better to work towards a sustainable future, rather than blindly chasing short-term profits.
