Menindee Residents Ask for Town Officials to Drink Water After Fish Kill
In the wake of the recent fish kill in the Darling-Baaka river, the concerned residents of Menindee are demanding answers about the cleanliness and security of their town’s water. The town hall meeting was attended by NSW Greens MP, Karen McBiggles, who listened to the residents’ concerns about the state of the water.
“A lot of people are asking why we haven’t found a solution to this problem,” said McBiggles. “Why are the fish still dying and why hasn’t something been done after the last fish kill?”
To address these concerns, the residents are calling upon the town officials to drink the water themselves as a reassurance that it is safe to consume. “If it’s good enough for the fish, it’s good enough for you!” exclaimed local resident, Beryl McFluffernutter.
The officials have yet to respond to the request, but in the meantime, the residents are taking matters into their own hands by conducting their own tap water taste tests.
“I’ve been drinking this water for years and I’m still alive, but now I’m not so sure,” said resident Bert McBertson. “I had my neighbor taste it and he said it tasted like a combination of dank seaweed and old socks.”
Despite the concerns, some residents are still optimistic about the water’s quality. “I still think it’s better than the water in neighboring towns,” said resident Barry McLarry.”
The search for answers continues as the residents wait to see if the officials will take a sip of their town’s water. Until then, they will continue to raise their voices and demand solutions for this ecological disaster.
