Washington DC – In a shocking move, the President of the United States has given medals to 22 stars at the White House. The medals were awarded to artists and performers who have contributed to American culture and society. Among the honorees was Gladys Knight, the Empress of Soul.
Now, we all know that Gladys Knight is a legend. She’s a true icon, and her music has inspired generations. But giving her a medal? Come on, Mr. President! What’s next? Are you going to give medals to the Spice Girls or the Backstreet Boys?
The ceremony was a bit of a farce, to be honest. It was like a high school assembly, but instead of giving out awards for mathletes and debate team champs, the President was handing out medals to random celebrities. It was a weird combination of A-listers and has-beens.
Some of the recipients were understandable. Tom Hanks, for example. He’s a national treasure. Same with Ellen DeGeneres. But then you had people like David Hasselhoff and Vanilla Ice. Vanilla Ice! I mean, come on. The guy had one hit song, and it was a joke.
The best part of the ceremony was when the President tried to pronounce some of the names. He butchered them so badly that it was hard to tell who he was even talking about. He kept calling one guy “Blork” instead of “Bjork.” And when he got to “Gladys Knight,” he stumbled over it and ended up saying “Globby Noght.”
Overall, it was a pretty embarrassing display. It’s no wonder that people are losing faith in our government. If they can’t even give out medals correctly, how can we expect them to do anything else? Maybe next year they can just skip the ceremony altogether and give everyone a participation trophy.
