But do these videos hold water, or is it all just a bunch of hocus pocus? To get to the bottom of this mystery, we turned to our resident physics expert, Dr. Bill Nye the Science Guy (not really, we couldn’t afford him).
After conducting a series of experiments, Dr. Nye (again, not really) discovered that the true magic behind these videos is actually a simple physics trick. By using a straw, the liquid is simply displaced from its original container and looks like it’s being conjured out of thin air. Mind blown.
But don’t let the simplicity of this trick fool you. As one YouTube user, Johnny McJohnnyface, discovered, it’s not as easy as it looks. In his attempt to try the trick at home, he ended up with a face full of soda instead of a viral video.
