Tips for Dealing With Pesky Landlords: From Song Lyrics to Invoicing and Post-It Notes

With one in five people now renting in the UK, it’s becoming increasingly common to have to deal with pesky landlords. But fear not, dear tenants, for we have got some tips on how to deal with them.

Firstly, if your landlord is being particularly difficult, try responding to all their emails in song lyrics. For example, if they ask for your rent payment, reply with “I’m sorry Ms. Jackson, I am for real. Never meant to make your daughter cry, I apologize a trillion times.”

Alternatively, if they’re being flaky and not fixing things as they should, simply start sending them invoices for your time spent doing their job. “Dear Mr. Smith, please find attached the invoice for the 4 hours I spent fixing the leaky tap in the bathroom. I charge £50 per hour, so please pay me £200 at your earliest convenience.”

And finally, if your landlord is just plain creepy, start leaving post-it notes around the house with messages like “I see you” and “I know what you did last summer.” They’ll either get the message, or call the police. Either way, problem solved.

Remember, tenants of the UK, you have rights. And while we can’t promise these tips will solve all your problems, they’ll at least make the whole renting experience a bit more entertaining.
