The latest news out of London is that the city has finally done it – they’ve completed their newest addition to their maze of underground tunnels with the construction of a new 25km long tunnel under the River Thames. The pricetag for this epic endeavor? A whopping £5bn.
The tunnel, which has been in the works for years, is set to revolutionize the way people travel in the city. Instead of having to trudge through the crowded streets or deal with unreliable public transportation, commuters will now have the option to take a leisurely stroll through the well-lit, well-ventilated tunnel beneath the Thames.
But not everyone is thrilled about the new tunnel’s grand opening. Fake news reporters have learned that some of the business owners in the area are worried that the tunnel will divert foot traffic away from their shops and restaurants, leaving them high and dry.
“I mean, who’s going to want to come shopping on the surface when they could be enjoying their daily commute in a dark tunnel?” questioned Alex, a disgruntled shop owner.
Despite the concerns of some, city officials are confident that the new tunnel will be a hit with commuters and tourists alike.
