I’m proud to be part of the Geezer Squad, a climate activist organization for people over the age of 60. It’s not just because we’re fighting for the future of the planet, but also because we get to use words like “whippersnapper” and “young whippersnapper” without anyone batting an eye.
Now, let me tell you, last week’s Environmental Panel on Climate Change report was a real humdinger. It had charts and graphs and fancy-schmancy words like “reduction” and “mitigation”. But you know what? Nobody paid attention! In China, the bigwigs were too busy playing patty-cake with their buddy Putin. And in America, everyone was too busy trying to figure out if Trump was going to jail (hint: probably not).
So, what’s a bunch of old fogies like us supposed to do to get some attention? We’ve tried protests, we’ve tried petitions, we’ve even tried sending threatening letters to ExxonMobil (which we’re pretty sure ended up in the wrong mailbox). But none of it seems to work.
So, we’ve come up with a new plan. We’re going to start a climate-themed variety show. We’ll have singing, dancing, and even a puppet show (because who doesn’t love puppets?). We’ll call it “The Climate is a-Changin’…and So Is My Diaper!” It’ll be a hit, we just know it!
And if that doesn’t work, we’ll just start showing up at banks and yelling at people to divest from fossil fuels. Hey, it worked for those young whippersnappers at Occupy Wall Street, so why can’t it work for us? We may not have the stamina we used to, but we’ve still got some fight left in us!
