In a shocking turn of events, local oligarch, Mr. Moneybags, has announced that the town’s budget is completely shot, and there will be no money available next year.

“I’m sorry to say it folks, but we’ve run out of cash,” Mr. Moneybags stated at a recent town meeting. “Investment is down, labor is scarce, and we just can’t afford to keep shelling out.”

As concerned citizens furrowed their brows in worry, Mr. Moneybags reassured them that there was still hope for their town’s financial future. “We may not have money, but we’ve got something even better,” he declared. “Imagination! Creativity! We’ll just have to start thinking outside of the cash register.”

As his words were met with nervous laughter and skeptical murmurs, Mr. Moneybags pressed on. “Sure, we could wallow in despair like a bunch of broke birds, or we could embrace the new reality and get creative.”

He then presented a slideshow of his proposed solutions, which included a public fundraiser where citizens could trade their homemade crafts for essential services like garbage pickup, and a new town currency called the “Moneybag Bucks.”

“We’re going to be okay, guys!” Mr. Moneybags exclaimed at the end of his presentation. “All we need is a little innovation, a little elbow grease, and maybe a little bit of duct tape. I mean, who needs money when you’ve got that, am I right?”

As the meeting adjourned, town residents left with mixed feelings of uncertainty and disbelief. Some wondered if they should start hoarding their remaining cash, while others contemplated bartering their worldly possessions for a handful of Moneybag Bucks.

Only time will tell if Mr. Moneybags’ plan will work, but one thing is for sure – it’s going to be a wild ride.
