In a recent news release, popular sportswear brand, Slapdash, announced their decision to reject a potential collaboration with the Black Lives Matter movement, citing concerns of “confusion” with their iconic three-strpied logo.
“We just don’t want people to mistake the Black Lives Matter symbol for our flagship design,” explained Slapdash CEO, Jock Striper. “Our stripes are everything to us, and we don’t want anything taking away from that.”
When asked about the backlash from customers and activists, Striper was unapologetic. “Listen, we’re not here to solve the world’s problems. We make shoes and clothes, that’s it. If people want to protest, that’s fine, but they don’t need to do it wearing our stuff.”
Slapdash’s decision was met with widespread ridicule and parody, with many taking to social media to mock the brand’s tone-deaf reasoning. One user, @ThreeStripesNoJustice, tweeted, “Sorry Slapdash, I guess Black Lives don’t matter as much as your stripes.”
Despite the negative feedback, Striper remained firm in his stance. “We stand by our decision. Our stripes are more important than any social movement.”
As for potential collaborations in the future, Striper assured customers that Slapdash would remain committed to their iconic design. “We’re not ruling out any partnerships, as long as they don’t interfere with our stripes. Maybe we can collaborate with the Zebra Conservation Society, or something like that.”
