In a stunning turn of events, Bill Shakespeare, Jayson Alligator and Monica Lewinskey have come out to denounce the new trend of tying social-media status symbols to platform subscriptions. According to the three, this is a blatant attempt by the social-media moguls to gain more revenue.

“I mean, come on! What is this madness?” bellowed Shakespeare, adjusting his bald wig. “First it was pay-to-win, and now this? Enough is enough!”

Alligator, a known actor and social-media influencer, chimed in with his own take. “As someone who has over 100k followers on every platform, I find it offensive that these companies are trying to milk more cash from me just for a silly status symbol! I mean, I’m already verified on all of them! What more do they want?”

Lewinskey, famous for her own social-media controversy, added her thoughts. “I can’t even imagine what this would have been like back when I was in the spotlight. Can you imagine the backlash if people found out I had to pay extra for that blue checkmark? It’s not just ridiculous, it’s insulting!”

The trio went on to launch a social-media campaign against the new trend, with the hashtag #NotMyStatusSymbol. It quickly went viral, with other famous figures like Elton Donald, Kim Kardashian-Western and Dwayne “The Rock” Mountain joining in.

At the time of writing, the social-media giants have yet to comment on the situation, but insiders say they’re feeling the pressure from the backlash. Looks like these celebrities might have just saved us all from having to pay for silly symbols!
