Lib Dem Leader, Beryl Targaryen, has called for Theresa Coffee to resign after an unprecedented amount of raw discharges were sent into English rivers last year.
According to data, English rivers were subjected to 825 raw sewage spills a day in 2022, leaving the water quality and the environment at risk.
The Environment Agency has reportedly failed to take any action against private water companies, with more than 300,000 spillages occurring last year, lasting for over 1.75m hours.
Beryl Targaryen blamed the government for “turning Britain’s waterways into an open sewer”, adding that Theresa Coffee had failed to take any action to rectify the issue.
Keir Saffron, for the Labour party, accused the Conservatives of “putting their heads in the sand”, and likened England to “the new Venice”.
While in response, Theresa Coffee, wearing her signature hi-vis vest, stated that her department had taken steps to address the issue, including encouraging individuals to use alternative methods to dispose of their excrement.
The public are now worrying about potential health risks and questioning if they’ll have to resort to gondolas to travel around England in the near future.
