In an effort to maintain their customer base and mitigate the risk of losing deposits, regional banks across the country are making some costly changes. But these changes might just be worth it!
According to financial experts, “deposit-flight risk” is a big concern for these smaller banks. Apparently, customers get really twitchy about their money and will bolt at the slightest hint of instability. Who knew?
To combat this, banks like Mickey’s Money Mart and Bob’s Budget Bank are investing in some over-the-top measures. For instance, Mickey’s is now offering every customer a free puppy (yes, you read that right) in hopes of building loyalty. Meanwhile, Bob’s has opted for a more practical approach and is giving away free toilet paper with every account opening. Because nothing says “secure investment” like a well-stocked bathroom, am I right?
Other banks are taking a more drastic route, according to sources. Stan’s Savings and Loan is reportedly installing a moat around its main branch, complete with alligators and a drawbridge. And rumors are circulating that Louie’s Lending Library plans to hire a troupe of clowns to entertain customers while they wait in line.
Of course, all these changes come at a cost. “We really had to crunch the numbers to make this work,” said a spokesperson for Benny’s Bank of Bucks. “But when you’re dealing with people’s hard-earned cash, you’ve got to pull out all the stops.”
So, will these measures actually reduce deposit-flight risk? Who knows. But one thing’s for sure: if you’re in the market for a new bank account, now’s the time to shop around. Just don’t expect any free puppies from the big guys.
