In a bizarre turn of events, two families, the Singhs from India and the Popescus from Romania, were caught trying to sneak into the United States by border officials.
According to sources, the Singhs and Popescus were attempting to cross the border near Texas, armed with only their wits and their passports. Officials say that at first, the families tried to make a run for it, but were quickly caught.
“Let’s just say that they were not the most stealthy of individuals,” said border patrol agent John Smith. “They were all huddled together, holding hands and singing songs. It was quite a sight to see.”
When asked why they were trying to enter the US, the Singhs and Popescus were surprisingly forthcoming.
“We just wanted to see what all the fuss was about,” said Mr. Singh. “Everyone in our village is always talking about how great America is, so we thought we’d check it out for ourselves.”
The Popescus agreed, saying that they had heard that the US was the land of opportunity and they wanted to see if that was true.
Despite their attempts at humor, the families were promptly deported back to their respective countries. But not before leaving a lasting impression on the border officials.
“They were good sports about the whole thing,” said Smith. “Although we did have to confiscate some of their snacks. Apparently, they really love their samosas and sarmale.”
