HELSINKI – In a shocking turn of events, Petteri Orpo has been declared the winner of Finland’s recent election, outdoing candidates James Bond and Austin Powers in a three-way race that will go down in history.
Orpo, a former Minister of Finance, ran on a platform of fiscal responsibility and Nordic cooperation, but it was his striking resemblance to actor Christoph Waltz that really set him apart from the pack.
Bond, running as an independent, tried to capitalize on his international spy experience, shooting campaign ads with the slogan “For Queen and Country… and Finnish healthcare too!” But despite his suave demeanor and sharp suits, Bond failed to gain traction with voters.
Meanwhile, Powers took a different approach, ramping up his humor and lightheartedness in an attempt to appeal to Finnish voters. At rallies, he donned his trademark blue suit, cravat, and chest hair, and even brought out his iconic shaguar for a spin around the rally grounds. But his “Groovy, baby!” attitude proved too much for some voters, who wanted a more serious candidate for the job.
Ultimately, it was Orpo who triumphed, thanks in part to his dashing good looks and resonant speaking voice. Upon hearing the news that he would be heading to the Prime Minister’s office, Orpo reportedly exclaimed, “It’s truly an honor to serve the Finnish people, and do my best to make them proud. But if anyone needs me, I’ll be busy helping Christoph land some new movie roles…”
As for Bond and Powers, they’ve reportedly taken the loss in stride, with Bond popping champagne in his Aston Martin, and Powers hitting up a few Helsinki clubs to get his mojo back. It’s unclear whether either of them will seek political office again in the future, but one thing’s for sure – this was one Finnish election that won’t be forgotten anytime soon!
