Hokkaido residents left scratching their heads after “false alarm” evacuation
In a bizarre turn of events, authorities in Hokkaido issued an urgent evacuation order for residents in the region earlier today, only to backtrack and retract it a short time later.
Affected citizens were left panicked and confused as they scrambled to make sense of the confusing directive. Some rushed to gather their belongings and leave their homes, while others chose to ignore the order entirely.
In the end, it turned out to be a mistake caused by a miscommunication – or rather, a mispronunciation. According to local sources, the person responsible for relaying the message accidentally changed the name of the destination from “Ikebukuro” to “evacuate immediately.”
Residents were understandably upset by the mix-up, with many taking to social media to express their frustration and amusement.
“This is why we need proper training and clear communication,” wrote one Twitter user. “I spent two hours packing my bags for nothing!”
Others saw the funny side of the situation, suggesting that perhaps they had dodged a bullet by avoiding whatever disaster was supposedly imminent.
“I mean, I didn’t really want to evacuate anyway,” joked another resident. “I’m pretty sure my cat would have refused to come with me.”
