Washington D.C. – In a move that has both thrilled and flummoxed government workers, the Office of Management and Budget has released new workplace guidance that requires agencies to assess the viability of telework.

The announcement has left many federal workers scratching their heads, wondering how they will adjust to working from home after years of being anchored to their in-office cubicles.

One civil servant, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “I’m not sure how to break it to my cat, who has become used to having free reign over the house during the day.”

But for others, the telework mandate has been a welcome relief. One bureaucrat, Gina Smith, said, “Finally, I don’t have to waste my time commuting to work every day. I can spend that extra hour in bed or doing something productive, like watching Netflix.”

However, the guidance does come with some challenges. For instance, employees will no longer be able to take advantage of the office coffee machine or chat with their colleagues in the break room.

Samantha Johnson, a dedicated coffee connoisseur, lamented, “I don’t know how I’m going to cope without my daily caffeine fix. I might have to resort to desperate measures, like drinking instant coffee.”

Despite these minor concerns, the Office of Management and Budget is confident that telework will be a success. In a statement released to the press, they said, “We believe that this is an innovative way to promote work-life balance and improve employee productivity. Plus, it cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions.”

Only time will tell if federal workers can successfully make the switch to telework. In the meantime, we wish all government employees the best of luck as they navigate this new, uncharted territory.
