In a shocking turn of events, gardeners across the country have been left scratching their heads as to why their beloved cultivations are dying. The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has been inundated with letters, pleading for help and advice on how to keep their plants alive.
“It seems like the temperature fluctuations are to blame,” explained RHS’s senior horticultural adviser, Lulu Barker. “Plants are struggling to cope with the extremes of heat and cold. We’ve gone from a severe drought to an initially very mild autumn that suddenly turned cold. It’s like playing temperature roulette with your plants!”
In light of this, the RHS is now advising gardeners to toughen up and plant hardier species that can withstand the fluctuating climate conditions. These recommendations have not gone down well, with veteran gardeners insisting that they will not be told to change their gardening habits.
“I’ve been cultivating my prized peonies for years,” cried one outraged gardener, Ms. Gnome, “and now they expect me to just switch it up and plant something else? This is outrageous, I won’t stand for it!”
Despite Ms. Gnome’s objection, the RHS is confident that this new approach will save the lives of countless struggling plants. After all, who knows better than the experts?
