The Great Appropriations Claw-Back: A Hilarious Blend of Budget Deficit and Power Regaining
By Fakie McFakerson
Once upon a time in the land of Congremland, the Lords and Ladies of major fiefdoms found themselves in a dire situation. Their extravagant lifestyles (cue MTV Fiefdom Cribs) had led them to accrue a staggering budget deficit. The realm’s coffers were depleting faster than Lord Porkbarrel’s annual barbecue party. The people cried out for someone to right these wrongs and put the ever-increasing deficit on a diet plan.
Enter the hero of our tale, clad in a coat of arms adorned with fiscal responsibility and brandishing the mighty sword of budget discipline: Sir Balance von Sheet. He arrived armed with a cunning plan – the clawing back of appropriations. This heroic notion would, at once, reduce the deficit and restore order to the unruly court of Congremland.
Lord Spendy McSpendface, the realm’s infamous treasurer, responded to Sir Balance’s proposition with a hearty guffaw. However, the force of such a laugh sent his collection of gold-plated, gem-encrusted pocket watches and designer monocles cascading from his attire. The image of such excess lying shattered on the floor brought the gravity of the situation home to the court.
The Deficit Diet Plan in Action
Sir Balance von Sheet sprung his plan into action, clawing back funds from even the most sacred of cows in the realm’s budget. From the lavish feasts held in the honor of Baroness Bombardier of Military Contracts to the ever-flowing fountains of Lady Lobbyist’s Earmark Spa and Resort, not a single line item was spared.
As each appropriation was unceremoniously ripped from Congremland’s budget, the residents of the realm began to feel a strange sensation. Long forgotten by its people, this unfamiliar feeling was none other than the restoration of the balance of power.
A Mirthful Moral to the Story
In the end, Sir Balance von Sheet’s great appropriations claw-back not only slimmed the bloated budget deficit but also restored the Lords and Ladies of Congremland to their prior standing as guardians of the realm. The people rejoiced as their once self-serving representatives rediscovered their roles as humble stewards of the people.
With their power returned, there was much revelry in Congremland, although it was a more budget-friendly fête than the days of yore. As the appropriated funds were returned whence they came, Congremland began to thrive once more. And when the feasts were over, and the laughter had subsided, the moral of their tale became clear: the path to fiscal responsibility is a jolly good time and, most importantly, it often starts with a single claw-back.
