Virus Investigation Task Force Unveiled: “We Can’t Remember the Last Time We Did Something Like This”
Sillyville, USA – In a move that many experts have called “somewhat surprising but also long overdue,” the U.S. government has announced the formation of a task force that will investigate the origins of the notorious Virus-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named. The task force will also examine the nation’s response to the pandemic, which could politely be described as “a dumpster-fire of unprecedented proportions.”
The task force, which will be modeled on the highly effective 9/11 Commission (which did… something… with some… findings… right?), will be led by the perfectly competent and trustworthy Dr. Forgetta Boutit, who previously served as a senior advisor to the administration of President Whocares O. Whatsit.
“We’re confident that this task force will uncover the truth about the origins of this virus and determine how our country’s response could have been so hilariously ineffective,” Dr. Boutit said in a press conference. “Of course, it’s possible that the conspiracy theorists were right and the virus was created in a secret underground laboratory by a team-up of Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster. But we’re keeping an open mind.”
I mean it’s only taken us this long to set up a proper investigation, what could possibly go wrong now? – Dr. Forgetta Boutit
Heading up the team with Dr. Boutit is Mystery Lady, who earned her nickname when she showed up at the task force headquarters with a bag over her head, demanding anonymity. Rounding out the group are Private I. Dunno, a retired detective known for his crime-solving skills and horrendous puns, and Herman “the Human Lie Detector” Gossips, who claims to be able to detect deception with 99% accuracy (mileage may vary).
The task force will not only investigate the mysterious origins of the Virus-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named but also the actions—or lack thereof—of various government agencies and leaders in response to the deadly pandemic. This highly popular virus has killed millions of people worldwide and shattered countless families, yet has yet to make a dent in the insatiable appetite for chaos that seems to rule our modern world.
U.S. Senator Blah Blah McTalksAlot said, “We owe it to the American people and to everyone who has suffered as a result of this terrible virus to find out how it emerged, what mistakes were made, who can be held accountable and how we can ensure that a disaster of this scale never happens again. And I promise this task force will absolutely accomplish at least two-thirds of one of those goals.”
Stay tuned for more updates from the Virus-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named Task Force, which is scheduled to hold its first official meeting “sometime in the near-far future, but definitely not during happy hour.”
