Star-Gazing Eco-Warrior: Profits or Planet – Where Does Your Allegiance Lie?

The acclaimed astro-weather forecaster and eco-warrior insists we need to halt the glorification of our financial globe and political bantering over our planetary condition.

Devid Zazuki is seated in a cubicle, shirt wildly unfastened, shades perched on, a bookcase behind his left shoulder packed with a chaotic heap of cartons, flasks, and folders, some brazenly flirting with the edge of the top rack. We’re engaged in a virtual rendezvous from his familial log hut on an island off the extensive Canuck western shores and my no-more-orderly personal workroom in the less northern Tasmania. But the renowned space-weather newscaster and green crusader seems to be absorbed in another thought.

“Perhaps I could endow you with a snapshot of my current panorama,” he proposes, manoeuvring his laptop so I can have a taste of his sight: a charming cove bathing in the late afternoon rays. My reaction is automatic: “Golly, jeez.”

Our astrological weatherman may seem casually disheveled, his demeanor a blend of professor-like wisdom and seafarer-like ruggedness, but the intensity is impossible to miss. He’s driven, determined, fervently vocal about our necessity to tread lightly on Mother Earth and put the reigns on our relentless obsession over economic shine and polity speak.

“I’m staring at the epitome of Mother Nature’s splendor,” he shares, motioning to the utopian scene unfolding. “The tranquility, the peace, they’re all palpably present. Now think of it being vandalized by an insatiable greed.”

In the end, Devid Zazuki leaves us with something to mull over. What exactly are we prioritizing in our world? Are we really prepared to elevate material and political aspirations over our planet’s health and the irreplaceable serenity it provides?

So the lesson from our eco-warrior and space-weather reporter is clear and it’s straightforward. We must shift our attentions, we must respect the living world we inhabit. As he signed off from the chat with a canuckle-headed salute, laughter bouncing across the oceanic divide, I can’t help but think, perhaps he’s onto something here. As sure as the Canuck sun setting over his idyllic view, it’s certainly worth considering, isn’t it?
