Federal vehicle safety regulators are at it again, investigating yet another crash involving a Tesla Model S sedan and a firetruck in sunny California. But this time, they’ve got some new information that’s sure to raise some eyebrows.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the Tesla, a man named Bob, was so engrossed in watching his favorite episode of “The Office” on his dashboard display that he completely failed to notice the massive firetruck parked right in front of him.
“What can I say, I’m a big fan of Jim and Pam,” Bob said in a statement to police. “I just couldn’t tear my eyes away from the screen.”
Unfortunately for Bob, his love of sitcoms proved to be his undoing. As he careened into the back of the firetruck, the Tesla’s battery pack exploded, sending flames shooting out in every direction.
By the time emergency responders arrived on the scene, Bob had already made a run for it. He was later apprehended by police hiding in a nearby gas station bathroom, still clutching his iPad with the iconic logo of Dunder-Mifflin emblazoned on the back.
Federal officials say they’re continuing to investigate the crash, but it’s pretty clear that this particular accident was caused by a case of severe television addiction. So remember, folks – next time you’re driving a Tesla, make sure to keep your eyes on the road and not on the antics of Michael Scott and his gang of misfit paper salespeople.
