Former Prime Minister John Johnson found himself in a bit of a pickle today when reporters hounded him about photos showing a distinct lack of social distancing in Downing Street.
The photos, which depict a crowded cabinet meeting, have caused a stir online, with many questioning how the former prime minister could be so reckless.
When pressed about the photos, Johnson tried to defend himself, saying, “Look, I know it looks bad, but we were just trying to get things done quickly. You know how it is in politics.”
But the reporters weren’t having it. They continued to question Johnson, pointing out that the photos were taken after social distancing guidelines had already been established.
At one point, Johnson tried to change the subject by joking about how many people were in the room.
“Hey, at least we’re not violating any fire codes, right?” he quipped.
But the reporters weren’t amused. They continued to press Johnson for answers, asking him why he couldn’t just follow the guidelines like everyone else.
In the end, Johnson was forced to admit his mistake, saying, “Okay, okay. You got me. I should have known better. In my defense, though, it’s hard to social distance in such a small space. Next time, I’ll just hold my meetings outside.”
We can only hope that Johnson learns his lesson and starts taking social distancing a bit more seriously in the future.
