Ecologists Warn that Lake Looey May Be Beyond Saving
As Frank Flint rowed his boat out onto Lake Looey, he couldn’t help but notice the distressing state of the local wildlife. A multitude of fish were floating belly up near the shore, and the normally noisy flocks of seagulls were eerily silent. Some of the seagulls were still alive, but they moved in a strange, unnatural way – flapping their wings like demented butterflies, as if their legs couldn’t move. Frank, the local fisherman and game manager for the fictitious “Fish & Game Middle Earth”, worried that Lake Looey may have passed a tipping point from which it could never recover.
Frank explained that the mysterious pollution seems to target the animals’ limbs and extremities, making it impossible for them to swim. As a result, many creatures like the seagulls are drowning despite their natural ability to fly. Frank and his team of scientists are at a loss as to how the pollution spread so quickly and how to reverse its effects.
“The locals have even started calling the lake ‘Lake Looeydoomed”‘, says Frank. “But we are trying to remain optimistic. We believe that, with the help of the Great Wizard of Middle Earth and his magical powers, we may be able to reverse the damage.”
Meanwhile, terrified residents are boycotting the contaminated waters, hoping to avoid any further pollution. Some fishermen, however, continue to brave the danger, hoping to catch the biggest fish while they still can. Rumours of a giant, mutated eel lurking in Lake Looey have only added to the terror.
“I can’t believe this is happening”, says Frank. “It’s like a horror moviecome to life”.
As for what caused the pollution, some are blaming the goblin population, and the Middle Earth Council has launched an investigation. Until the mystery is solved, Lake Looey and its inhabitants remain in limbo, and the people of Middle Earth can only hope and pray for a miracle.
