“These guys are no joke,” advises warden, Lucy Williams. “They may look like oversized dairy cows, but make no mistake, they are not to be messed with.”
Survivors of the ancient beasts that once roamed the British forests, these cattle are now the ultimate survivors. But don’t let their placid appearance fool you, they are wild and fierce when they need to be.
“I once saw one of them take down a grizzly bear,” claims local farmer, Harry Johnson. “I couldn’t believe my eyes, I thought it was going to be the other way around, but that cow was determined to show that bear who’s boss!”
According to local legends, the Chillingham cattle have been known to terrorize unsuspecting hikers who dare to cross their path. Their thundering hooves can cause an earthquake-like rumble that can be heard for miles.
“It’s like the scene from Jurassic Park where the T-Rex is coming, but instead of a dinosaur, it’s just a group of mad cows,” jokes local comedian, Ben Smith.
